"I am the punishment of God...If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you."-Genghis Khan

Titus Andronicus is Shakespeare's most bloodiest and misunderstood plays. It is a story of revenge. Everyone seeks revenge against everyone else. Is revenge ever justified? Why are we so obsessed with revenge stories? What does that say about ourselves? Our culture? Explain.

  1. Revenge is never justified. when you're getting revenege its just like commintting the same crime. We may be obsessed with revenege stories because its not a normal thing in our society. We like to hear about blood and gore of a fight because its a rare occurance. We like revenege stories because we get in everyone elses buisness. We like to hear about juicy drama stories. This isnt a thing to be proud of. We are a society that doesnt keep to ourseleves we want to brown nose into everyone situations and we want to hear about violence or how someone got arrested. There are so many jail shows onTV. There are shows like cops and gang shows. we watch it because its not normal to see in reality. Our culture revolves around drama. We are so in tuned to revenge and drama stories.

I agree with what Brianna said. Revenge is never justified because it continues and it can be so gruesome. We like revenge stories because people find revenge in the most interesting of ways, that seem to draw our attention. It is not an everyday thing so when there is a story about revenge, we always want to know about it. We also like to be in others' business, like Brianna said. When someone wants revenge on another, we always want to know the situation and witness the revenge act. It says that our culture is nosy and interested in the wrong things.

  3. Revenge is the little green monster for a reason. It's no good and everyone in at least once in their lifetime will experience it. Revenge is never justified once you commit revenge you are as bad as the person who hurt you in the first place. Revenge stories are just like those mystery novels. They give people a little sneak peak then you have to know what is next. You can't stop once you've started. Books like this are based off the real life situations. This tells us there is something seriously wrong with our culture, life style, ect. Religiously they tell us we should not have revenge on our mind and to forgive. People never practice what they preach though. Basically we are all doomed. We can't get over what we want so we destroy others. Revenge.

I believe in the concept of karma. What goes around comes around. But I also see revenge as perfectly justifiable. However, some times the victim should not commit the act of revenge themselves. It is in some cases better left for the universe to handle. The people on our planet are so obsessed with revenge now and back in the day. If we just turn on the TV, there are so many movies based off of this concept. We like to watch these types of films and read these types of books because actual major revenge does not happen that often in the real world. We desire to get back at people, but our religions, moralities, and societal disappointment prevents us from doing so

Along with what Brianna said, revenge is not justifiable because it's a continuous spiral downward once it's started. It is impossible to justify something that causes nothing but negative aspects to come forth and ruin you and others, you do not gain anything from it because as soon as you gain some satisfaction the revenge is now being taken out on you and canceling out your accomplishment. We like revenge plots for this reason because it throws in twists, if the joker died in Batman without a fight or without coming back for revenge then we wouldn't have a plot or a movie any longer it would simply end. This shows that our culture is revolving around revenge and spite. We see it in every day life in school when people are arguing and calling each other names back and forth because the other person doesn't want to not get their revenge. Revenge once it is started is hardly ever finished out quickly therefore since our culture has found it's grasp chances are we will continue to be captivated by it for some time to come.

  6. Revenge is something that everyone experiences. When someone dose something bad to you, you want the same thing to happen to them, or worse. Its like you do something bad on me then ill do something worse to you. We love to hear revenge stories because it thrills our mind with new ways of revenge we can have on someone else. Because it thrills our drive to take our more revenge, it shows that our culture is very violent and excited about things that could be potentially harmful to others. It also shows that we take to many things on a personal level and think that they mean "buisness" when really they were just being funny, or kidding. But the people today are more opiniated and "free willed" and if you mess with one little things things could pop off.

Revenge is never really right, because you are taking all your pain and putting it on someone else in hopes that it will make you feel better. However, the hurt is still on you, and in the end everyone is hurt. We are so obsessed with revenge and violence because we are fascinated with fighting and death, and that reflects on our movies like saw, and our growing collection of slasher flicks. We must like the arousal of fear and excitement of watching or reading it. So our culture doesn't seem to care about morals as much as a quick entertainment and excitement.

  8. Revenge can never be justified because you are doing what they did to you but in a different way. People try and get back at ones that have hurt them, but they try and do it ten times worse. Revenge is a circle, that goes from person to person. We're obsessed with revenge stories because our society is more gory and always trying to push the boundaries. Our culture loves blood, murder, and of course a good revenge story. Look at movies like Saw, The Strangers, etc. People today love things like this. This just shows how we try and push the boundaries for what is acceptable and what people can do.

  9. Revenge can never be justified because that pain or hate is still in you it may be subsided but it will come back. Like the person who hurt you you'll be reciprocating the same thing. Society loves gore and pain and blood because it is an enjoyment like jeepers creepers and saw. We're making our worst fantasys come true for.an audience.

  10. I totally agree. Revenge just turns into a terrible, never ending cycle with a non-take-back-able (idk, my own word) ending. Someone steps on your toe, so you kick them in the shin, then their dog poops in your yard so you poison it then they kill your mother. Bam. Society likes this concept because it's interesting. Violence occurs everywhere, and you can even see it on facebook. Every day, i see "Brandon Rodriguez watched 352bumpin on viddy." Everyone loves fights at school, too. Just as long as its not them. For example, the revenge scenario i made up in the beginning of this; i enjoyed making it up (kinda creepy) but if it was me, i would be miserable. This just means we're all jerks.

I don't think revenge is ever justified because it for the most part always turns into something that is to extreme. However many people are obsessed with getting revenge only because they feel it will make them feel better but it doesn't. Revenege is a game that is played that never ends basically. This says that society is real screw up.

Revenge is never justified because its like a cat and mouse game. It just keeps going on and on and never stops. People feel that revenge is the way to making them feel better about something but most of the time you end up feeling bad about it. For example; If you have a friend and you guys fall out because she told a secret that she should not have told then you decide well since she did this to me I am going to tell so and so something she told me. This would turn into a never ending thing. Therefore revenge is never justified and it is completely unnecessary.

Revenge is never justified. Just like in Titus Andronicus, its like a domino effect. And eventually they will end up hurting themselves at the end.

  14. revenge is sweet at first but always bitter in the end. it is not justifiable but sometimes it just feels so right to do. our obsession with revenge stories is from our relatedness to that particular instance. we see what the movie does to get revenge and then it feeds our want to see a good revenge performed on another. it speaks about us in so many way that we are revengeful people and we want to make that person feel what we feel and culturally it shows that revenge is sometimes justified like in the chronicle of a death foretold the Vicario brothers revengeful deed was considered justifiable by everyone else!

Revenge is something that should never be justified because no matter how revenge seems to be between two people, everyone around still gets hurt. Our society loves revenge because we love for people to get there just deserts although when are these deserts not served best and should not be sold to the public?
